Proportional vs. On/Off T-stats
Hey guys, i was just wondering what you guys prefer and why. Some companies say they like on/off thermostats and some say they prefer proportional. Im not really sure. I have a johnsons which is an on/off and i dont want it to be a "rollercoaster ride" for my herps. Should i go get a herpstat instead?

I certainly prefer proportional, they are superior. On/Off can be cheaper I suppose??

I only use proportional. The clicking of on/off thermostats bug me.

Re: Proportional vs. On/Off T-stats
I prefer proportional thermostats for the main reason that they provide much more stable temps over on/off type. You'll have a bigger temp variance using an on/off Tstat vs a Proportional.
The clicking also does get annoying if you spend a lot of time in the proximity of where you keep your snakes.

I use both types.
Depends on what you need it for.
For my room temps, Double Rancos all day long.
For the animals, Herpstat Pro.

I have a few Johnson Controls and a Herpstat pro. I like all of them. I have the herpstat pro on my snake racks and johnson controls on my leopard geckos and on my quarantine tubs. Both work great.

Re: Proportional vs. On/Off T-stats
I have 2 Helix and 5 Ranco's. I am pleased with all of them. I think a proportional is a must for an incubator. I'm used to the clicking on the Ranco's, I don't even notice it, and I have it set to 1 degree, which I don't think is much of a roller-coaster for the animals. Both types have worked reliably for me.

Thanks for all of the input guys. Im not using my johnson t-stat on and incubator and its set to a one degree differential so ill be keeping it for now.
