Dwarf/SD Retics
Im starting research on my next snake, and i think if finally decided on a mini retic. I LOVE their patterns i just cant house a full grown full size retic.
Are there any special care they need that a normal wouldnt? Where are the best breeders to look at for the mini guys? Whats the size dif between dwarfs and super dwarfs?
Sorry for the seemingly newb questions, im jsut doing all my research now so i dont have any surprises

Re: Dwarf/SD Retics
I would go with a super dwarf. The dwarfs still have the potential to get pretty large. Ive seen some pretty large jamps. As a matter of fact I dont understand why people still call them dwarfs once a snake can get over 12 feet thats a big snake to me.

Yeah. Go with the SD. I have a yearling male and hes awsome. Has all the personality of a normal retic just in a smaller package. Great feeding response, extremely curious and mine isnt cage aggressive at all. And about them calling jamps dwarf its kind of in proportion to a large retic. I mean 12 feet isnt bad when you could have something twice the length. Haha

Re: Dwarf/SD Retics
really??
googling "super dwarf reticulated python" should land you at mike wilbanks page (constrictors unlimited) or bob clark reptiles, they both breed SD retics.
You can keep an eye on classifieds like kingsnake.com and faunaclassifieds.com as well.

I got mine from steve at repti-racks. But try looking on faunaclassifieds and kingsnake. There was a guy selling his last 08 male for 250. Kingsnake usually has a really good selection of pythons.

Re: Dwarf/SD Retics
Thanks for the help guys. Im a month or better out from even thinking about putting money down for one, i jsut want to get everything ready for when i do get one, i hate getting a snake and running around town trying to throw everything together for it that day.
I would like to keep it under 10' preferable under 8' I just think retics are one of the most amazingly beautiful snakes out there, i dont want a morph I just want the classic retic pattern
anyone have a link to a care sheet for one? or should i just find one for a normal retic

Just use a care sheet for a normal retic. And ill have mine in a 4x2x1 which will be plenty for my male. You can email me at redstormlax12@hotmail.com if you need any questions answered quick about them.

I have a LTC pair of SDs from Bob Clark. They are both under 10ft & are very cool snakes. I recommend a CB SD male if you like smallest length possible. My male is very tame, however during breeding season he cares more about getting with his girl just like a typical Retic. It's cool to have adult Retics that feed on Med-Lg FT Rats.
I hope to produce some more eggs like last year AND this year see them hatch too! Baby SDs are smaller than BPs! They are also very active snakes when they are young, I like to offer them hides & a bit extra room to explore. They are also FAST movers! When working with them I find slow deliberate motions are best, at least at first.
Please make sure to get familiar with the LOOK of SDs, they are different than the mainlands- if in doubt get pics before you buy & post them up. We'll help you.

Re: Dwarf/SD Retics
I got mine from Gerrick Demyers at http://www.royalconstrictordesigns.com/ very pleasant experience. He is a real stand up guy.
As for a differnce from norm to sd tics. I think they are the same. Mine is a real sweet heart but a bit flighty at first when you reach in for him. He always looks like hes gonna bite but hasn't so far. Well he got me once when I was feeding. Note to all "snake is faster than you are". lol.
