    Ummm fleas/earmites?

Hi all I wanted to ask a quick question about fleas.

I have kitties and we have never had fleas but one had to go to the vet to get spayed and she came back with earmites and fleas.

So I am wondering IF my ratties were to catch either of these what could I do for the rats.

I have meds for the earmites and we are going to bath the cats but I wasn't sure what I can do IF my rats ended up with something too.

Just a precausionary measure so that IF they do start acting like they have something I can get on it right away.

I am assuming that rats can get these from my cats, am I wrong?

    Thanks

if your cats didnt have fleas or earmites before going to the vet i would surely be taking that issue up with your vet and the state!

    Re: Ummm fleas/earmites?

Really? You think they would do something about it. Or that they'd really care?

I figured I would get the Sorry but we can't control these things due to so many animals coming through here reply.
And then them not really believing me that she didn't have these issues before she went.

I really honestly think the vet knows she got the earmites there cause I was in total shock when she said she had them. None of my other guys have them and she had been isolated since she got back from being fixed to try to keep her calmer and quiet.

I didn't tell her she also had fleas. Didn't think she'd care.

Plus my guys never go anywhere and aren't around any other animals .

But anyway back to the issue of the vet knowing.

She didn't charge me for the exam/office visit just the meds.
And usually you can't walk in the door with out paying the office visit fee ya know.

I had brought her in a few weeks earlier to get a shot along with two of my others and she checked them out then and didn't say anything about ear mites then cause she didn't have them.

She asked about what we used for fleas and I told her nothing cause they didn't have fleas.

Anyway I didn't really think there was to much that could be done about it.

Most vets look at me like I am CRAZY when I say my guys don't have fleas.
    But its true .

No one else has earmites but her but I think a couple of my guys have come down with fleas now so am going to buy something for them so that they don't spread any futher.

In all honesty my cats don't really know what fleas are. We just don't have problems with them.

We would always put fleas stuff on them when we went home to visit so that they didn't bring any back with us, just in case cause of animals at home.
And we never brought any back.

I know the vets in our home town make you pay for a flea pill when you bring an animal in for any kind of stay and if you won't pay they can't stay.
    I see why now.

So you honestly think it would make a difference if I said something?
    I just didn't think they'd really care.

I am upset about it cause now I need to get rid of these parasites and I am just hoping the rats don't get them too. Plus its going to cost money to get rid of them.

The bad thing is I have two more that need to go get fixed. I guess I will be prepared and put something on them before hand.

    Thanks
