Usark said they had sat down with them and revised it to include only burmese pythons and african rock pythons instead of all pythons. And then when it came down to the hearing it wasnt changed like it was suppose to be it still read all pythons and they wanted to include boas. They did not decide at the hearing and said they were going to take a week to get some facts and more input on the ban. And thats the last I have heard. I dont believe a new hearing has been scheduled as of yet. Everyone should still be calling everyday and we need to send MAIL!!!!! Just like we did with hr 669. Im not sure why usark has not came out and said hey lets hit there mailboxes! Even if you dont keep pythons. It seems like everyone fought the week and now its kind of like ok we are gonna take it easy now and see what happens. I dont want my burms and retics and condas on the lacey act and I hope noone else wants there pythons and boas on it either. So lets send some letters and keep there lines busy.

Re: whats going on with hr2811

HR 2811 was amended over the summer to include only burmese pythons and african rock pythons. It is not a ban on ownership, but it is a ban on import, export, and most importantly interstate transport.

That means that it would be a felony to transport a burm (of african rock) from one state to another. People seeking specialized veterinary care for their snake in a another state wouldn't be able to get it. People moving to another state for a new job or family reasons or just because they would like to would not be able to take their snake with them. Active duty military families transferred to a base in a new state would not be able to take their pet to their new duty station. For some people moving to a new state isn't a choice, it's a necessity ... these people could potentially be forced to kill or even let go their beloved pet python. HR 2811 as it's written is inhumane.

There is a new push by those in favor of HR 2811 to amend it further so that it would include anacondas, reticulated pythons, and boa constrictors. In congressional testimony, the Humane Society of the United States stated that their preference would be the inclusion of all 47 species of constrictors.

There are three ways HR 2811 can go from here. The first would be that nothing happens and it expires at the end of the year (although it would come back next year). The second is that it moves to the house floor for a full vote. The third is that someone (a congressman/woman) offers the new amendment to include anacondas, retics, and boas. There is a strong belief that the new amendment will be introduced shortly.

    Hope this helps.

So, instead of worrying about it now before it becomes a problem... Who do you write to stop it?

I did hear African rocks were on there as well but it seemed like the guy I was talking too jumped the gun a little bit. The way im reading this is that they are trying to add boas on the list?

It seem slike the info out there is vague. Lets just hope that with continued pressure the bill does not get passed!

You let them know what it would do to your family. Would it effect your income? It would kill internet sales as your not allowed to ship across state lines anymore. It would be much like indian pythons. To own one you have to have a breeder in your state. And if not you have to apply for a 200 dollar cbw permit so you can get one

I have some boas that top out at five feet. I'm confused about why they would put them in the same class as retics...

Honestly, humans are a much bigger invasive species than snakes. Why don't they focus on that?
