What snake to put in my 55 gallon?!!!?? :D

    Hey guys, help me out!

I've got a 55 gallon fish tank that I have mounted into the wall. Its currently houseing a huge 10'' red devil cichlid and a pleco the size of your arm... well im getting sick of always having to clean up water they splash out on to the drywayll and really they both need a bigger tank anyway. Pluss im currently starting a 75 gallon salt tank so I really only need one big fish tank :p.

Seeing that i spent so much time on making the frame and drywalling the hole thing into my existing wall, i dont just want to scrap the hole thing because it looks really cool. Soooo im toying with the idea of getting a large snake to put in it. Like a red tail, or maybe just a really pretty show snake like a treeboa or python. When I say "show snake" i dont plan on handleing somthing often that requires stiches every time i get nipped... .

Money is also an issue here. Im not looking to spend $300+ on it. More in the $200 range or less is all I can really afford right now.

    So heres a few snakes iv'e thought of;

    1. Redtail Boa
pros; love them! cheap!!, can find large ones to addopt all the time.
cons; may outgrow the tank kind of fast, have 4 cats.... can seeing that ending bad somehow lol

    2. Amazon Tree Boa
pros; arboreal so tank should be plenty big
cons; never held one, but they just look mean as sin....

    3.Emerald Tree Boa
pros; alllwayys wanted one! aboreal, but tank still may not be deep enough.
cons; price and herd they have a nasty bite as well

    4.Green Tree Python
pros; my buddy has a yearling and i love it. will have one one day
cons; price. well for the local i would like to get anyway

    5.Carpet Python
dont think tank has enough floor space..

6..you guys chime in.. its 5am and im just really bored lol

Something mainly arboreal would be good. Mainly because you'll see them a lot more in a display cage like that. A good GTP or ATB would look lovely. You could also divide it in two and put in two smaller arboreal snakes.

Carpets need a bit more floor space IMO, same with RTBs. I think an RTB would be very hard to do in a cage like that because reaching in to pull out a heavier snake could get difficult and slightly dangerous.

yea i actually thought about doing that too. each tank would just be 6'' shorter than the 20L's that i keep them in now.

was actually at a local pet store tonight and held a 7ft red tail . he was puppy dog tame and i fell in love. i want to get one soooo bad now, but the tank is going to be too small for one as an adult, so i may just get a baby and rais him in it until i can build a large cage for him. and by him and not getting a female 6-8 feet is big enough as it is.

another thought is i may make it into a dart frog tank! ive already got a water line running to the tank for water changes so i figure i might be able to rig up a misting system

Dumeril's boa. A lot of the same pro's as a red tail but less common. Super tame, good feeders and very pretty snakes. You can get one less than $100 wholesale for a baby and I've seen adults for $200.
