Re: Would You Consider Yourself Addicted?
I do think constantly about getting more and check in on the ones I have about 6 times a day. I have so far controlled myself and have not made any impulse buys, but the desire is certainly there.

Re: Would You Consider Yourself Addicted?
"If you are keeping your reptiles and/or amphibians for the love of the hobby and are willing to provide all the care they need, select yes. "
I don't think that really describes an addict tho. I mean addictions are spossed to be something you uncontrollably crave. compare it to caffeine, which i am addicted to. I mean I go to a reptile show or look at stuff online and I do want it. but i have the control not to buy it/steal it. caffeine on the other hand, If i don't drink anything with caffeine for a while, i get a splitting headache, I crave it, I HAVE to have it. luckly my addicition cost less than 2 dollars. but i feel like I would steal a pop if it came down to it lol.
the reptile addict if you ask me, is the person thats going heavily into debt, still aquiring new animals and rescues and as a result it is affecting their family and friends and they might be the ones that are providing adequate care because they don't have the resources. and there is people like this, i remember reading someones story a few weeks ago, sound like he went through AA for reptiles. Local pet store by me, got broken into and the guy stole all sorts of animals, cameras got installed, and the guy got caught stealing more a few weeks later and i guess he had all the previously stolen animals all set up in cages, and he made no efforts to sell any of them, he just wanted them.

Yes, addiction is a good choice of words.
But, I will submit that, unlike many addictions, this one allows you to get something back, in both tangible and intangible ways. The tangible is being able to sell and/or trade what you produce, which will in some cases mitigate loss, allow a break even proposition, and if you are good at it, make some extra cash in the process.

I say, there is a very thin line between addiction and obsession...

Re: Would You Consider Yourself Addicted?
I didn't think so. Even after my 50th, I didn't think I had a problem. Then when I was building another rack and not having any place for it, I started to think I may have had a problem. But the thing that turned me around was when I cancelled a weekend vacation because I had eggs that were ready to hatch, the same weekend I was to go away.
I went cold turkey and got out of breeding snakes, and I stayed away for almost 5 years. I know have gooten bit by the bug and have started my collection again.
Who needs a wife anyway?

Re: Would You Consider Yourself Addicted?
Well I got my first bp 4 months ago and now I have 8 but do I think I am addicted, no. In order for it to be an addiction it would have to be maladaptive which at this point it is not, then again I could just be in "snake addiction denial." lol
