    Question Bearded Dragon Supply List

Alright so as some of you may know I'm going to pick up a male or female adult Beardie at the reptile expo this Saturday. Now, here are the items I will get at the show, hopefully everything I need will be there:

-Branch/log (the one I have is too large to boil/dry out)
-2 digital thermometers (one for basking spot & one for cool side)
    -water dish
-UVB lighting (stretches to fit across my entire 40g enclosure)
-Heat lamp (the dome heat lamp, not sure what watt basking bulb to get)
    -Hide

I think there is something I'm missing, not sure what. For the greens I'm going going to put a plastic plate with the greens on it in the enclosure when I feed the Beardie greens. I also have a dish that I could put pellets in.

    Here are my questions:

    Am I missing anything?
Would a 75 watt bulb be ok to use, meaning, would it produce enough heat?
Do I need to use a basking bulb or would any bulb work as long as the basking temps reach the right temp?

I thought you froze the log, any ways you forgot the substrate, but i would recomend tile since it reduces the risk of impaction

What kind of substrate do you plan on using?

For substrate go with paper towel, newspaper, a non adesive shelf liner, repticarpet, or even tile, like slate tile. ABSOLUTELY NO WALNUT SHELL

What UVB bulb did you get?

    Have you tried baking it?
And you could always try a bleach solution to clean the log but you have to use like a 1/4 cup of bleach to a gallon of water to dilute it. I'm pretty sure that's what it's supposed to be, I'll double check. When you do it put it in a bathtub or something with that solution and then be sure to rinse really well with water and make sure there are absolutely no traces of bleach left

Why two digital thermometers? depending on the kind you get, most will show the temperature of where the actual thing is, and where the probe is, if you get one with a probe, which i would say it best because you can stick the probe directly on the basking spot.

Any kind of bulb is ok as long as it gets to the proper temps.

I'm still trying to get the UVB, not sure if Petsmart would have them, but I might as well take a look. If not, I'll try to find one at the expo.

I'll try to find some bleach, but I doubt I have any here. I haven't seen any around the house.

For the substrate, I'm using paper towels. I read that playsand is alright for adults, but I'm not risking impaction. I've dealt with impaction before with a Leo I had a long time ago and the results were horrible..

You will probably find better deals on UVB and such at the show vs. Petsmart. Good luck, Tiff.

I have a 40 gallon with a beardy and 100 watt zilla spot bulbs works nicely if you clamp light on back of tank to hot if set on top of lid... gives a nice gradient if put on one end.... hope this helps

go to reptile supply print off a copy of pic and price, most petsmarts match prices or petcos match, on light i used a regular light realy doesn't matter to me, best uvb, so far for me is reptisun 10.0 if your getting an adult dragon go for a mecury vaper bulb., tile is one one of my dragons, carpet is on the other, IMO tile is better, but gf like carpet. im sure ya did your research but remember babies eat ALOT of crickets.
