Just wondering If at some point of the year do ball-pythons stop eating?
Are they suppose to? Is this normal?

Re: Do ball pythons stop eating at some point?

Sometimes males will go off feed during the breeding season. I've heard of females doing the same as well, especially when they are gravid.

Not sure if this is true, but I hear at random times a Ball python will go off feed for no reason at all. I don't completely believe that statement because the main reason for a Ball python to go off feed is when it is stressed.

Ball python's are known well for their fasting abilities. They can go off feed for multiple reasons. The most common issues are a.) improper husbandry b.) overfeeding c.) breeding season (usually only males) and finally d.) illness. Check your temps/humidity and make sure you have two hides on opposite ends of your heat gradient. Make sure that the prey item is the proper size for your BP. Do you know the sex of your vet? and finally if you are even doubtful or just have a feeling that something is wrong with your BP (or any animal) always take it to the vet. It's always better to catch an illness early than be too late.

Definitely absolutely 100% of the time they will at some time in their life.....and since this doesn't kill them....BG would say....it's normal.

    Hope that answers your question.

Re: Do ball pythons stop eating at some point?

My ball is a male but I did have a female that did the same thing at one time.
My guy is in a tub where it stays at a 85 to 91 degree's. He's big boy but i feed him small rats and really I think those are small for him. When my female did this it took almost two months for her 2 start eating again. I just wonder if seasons got anything to do wit it?

Ball Pythons will and DO go off feed even when given the proper husbandry. Some when over fed will fast for months to catch up. Others will just fast as their at that size. You need to keep in mind that ball pythons in the wild barely eat 12 times a year let alone every week. So if everything is spot on with the setup then you have nothing to worry about. Stress is NEVER ALWAYS the cause for a snake to go off feed.
