noob question about washing tubs with UTHs
So, the UTH sticks to the bottom of the tub, right? So. . . doesn't that make it a pain in the neck to clean the tubs?
I'm sure this is a really stupid question but if there's some clever solution that makes it easier to keep things clean, I'd like to hear it!

Re: noob question about washing tubs with UTHs
I don't think people with UTH on their tubs clean the outside of it--and even if they do, the UTH doesn't stick to tubs to begin with (you need aluminum tape) so you just take it off and retape it when you're done.
Rack systems with tubs usually use heat tape rather than individual UTH for both money and efficiency issues, which aren't placed on the tub itself but on the rack.
Watch and wait; a hapless creature has wandered in wake of my growing hunger. My oh my, don't you look tasty? Hey traveler, what do you know of wolves?
All that's scaly and reptilian, all that's furry and mammalian, all that swims in the sea, all that flies in the sky--I love each and every one of these precious creatures.

Re: noob question about washing tubs with UTHs
I have 3 tubs on heat tape, and yes I take the tubs and wash them completely.
I have a spider hatchling that I just got in QT. Since I dont wanna put the tub close to the other ones, Im using it with a UTH, Im pretty much stuck to spot cleaning it. Kinda of a pain, but I asure you is much easier than cleaning a Tank with a UTH!

Re: noob question about washing tubs with UTHs
As noted the heating device sticks to whatever is under the tub. Unless it is sitting on a dresser or some other such thing. Then you simply do not tape it down, or pull off the stickies.
Those stickies on conventional UTHs are to stick them to the bottom of aquarium/vivariums, not to stick them to plastic tubs.

Re: noob question about washing tubs with UTHs
I have one of those UTH with the sticky side that I use for QT situations. And what I did was peal the paper form the sticky side and then I covered the sticky side with aluminum tape. Then I just set the UTH under the tub, hooked up to a T-Stat of course.

I did the same, But I use a lamp dimmer instead, works great on UTHs.
