we eat poop and reproduce, in snake terms we should be happy, I think we should stop judging people because of race, sexual preferance, religion and gender and focus on being human and get along.

Snakes lack a limbic system and a developed neocortex.

Prejudice is a learned survival mechanism. Things that threaten your ability to survive require mechanisms to keep you alive and keep the species reproducing. A few of these mechanisms are built in and others are learned (just like work ethic is learned), prejudice is one of these mechanisms. Usually it is learned at an extremely early age from your parents or other role models. As such it is very hard to lose.

It also doesn't help that we seek out people who are similar to us and peer acceptance reinforces the mechanism.

Trying to remove prejudice from humanity is entirely useless, it's better to have people more integrated from an early age so they can get positive and negative experiences with people of all groups.

As for sexual prejudice, thats actually built into us as children in the way our parents treat us and how our peers treat us. Gender roles pretty much just constantly enforce themselves. Look at how long it has taken for women to become as empowered as they are now.

I do not think prejudice is a "learned" mechanism, though it is a mechanism,I think humans have to learn not to to be prejudiced, because being prejudiced against strangers, has been an advantage in reproduction way too long. I highly doubt sociology, in my eyes the most useless academic field and I am a strong believer in in social biology, genetics and evolutinary behaviour sciences, I have been studying social sciences way too long, being confronted with Freudianers and "Your peer group forms you, you are nothing" sociologists.

You dont have to be told as a child to accept the black kid, you just do and dont even notice the difference. But you do need to be told to lynch them for being a different colour in order to do it. Many children grow up not even noticing the difference in other children, but if you grow up around people who are the same as you then you would be apprehensive of people who are different, the more you have been stressed by things that are different the more likely you are to have a negative reaction to new things.

Sorry, I am to tired (it is 6 o clock in the morning over here) to go in a detailled scientific disscusion right now, especially in a sensible field like that and because you are right to a certain point.
But my initial point was that we should try to overcome our mostly, not always, unjustified prejudices (as good human beings) and try to have a good time in the short lifespan we have, without bothering to much about bs like "gender studies".(Ohhh, I am not just tired, but I am also a little bit drunk....)

Leech is a good word. When I got my high school alumni directory, I was completely amazed at the number of women I went to school with that are now "stay-at-home" moms. I couldn't imagine that many women were dependent on their husbands/boyfriends. Completely dependent. Not even a part-time job (granted, I got this directory before the economic downfall). I couldn't do that myself. I'm too independent to even think about letting someone control all of that stuff for me. Of course, years down the road, probably half of those women will be divorced, and slinging snot about how "my husband took everything from me, and now I have to work! Pity me, feel sorry for me, because I used to sit at home, and now I actually have to do something."

Please don't get me wrong--cleaning the house and caring for children is a full-time job in and of itself, but it's the way these women play these things off that really irks me. "Give me a bunch of free stuff because you pity me--I relied on my husband to do everything for me without any initiative, and now I can't even begin to be self-reliant." Grow up and join the real world. There are plenty of women who can and do work, and there's no reason why you can't do it. I just can't imagine anyone (man or woman) who doesn't have any type of drive to accomplish anything in their life. That would be a very pathetic existence.

No, no, they are unjustified in many cases, I was just going over why we are unlikely to change and why it forms. I agree we should get rid of it, but we wont and it's upsetting but its kind of something you have to accept then try and move forward from.
