Yes, I keep lineage records on all of my animals, and I've even entered them into iHerp's lineage database.
If I ever produce something 'new and secret', I would still make the lineage information public once the cat was out of the bag.
This is a VERY under-utilized area, in my opinion. Balls do undergo some pretty drastic color changes over the course of growing up, particularly some morphs such as pastels.
