I find that using a "sewing" measure tape works wonders in measuring my snakes. If you don't know what I mean, it is a measuring tape that is highly flexible and softer than a normal styled measuring tape tool. Many people who sew use one because it makes measuring a whole lot easier. Plus it allows you to grapple the snake while having the tape pulled out, without fighting with it too. Just a thought.
