Well if the person was half intelligent they would not take all their knowledge from one source. But this advice should be taken with any hobby you are interested in.

But like Cinder said, people who give out wrong advice on this form are quickly corrected which i think also has its advantages because not only does the OP gain knolowledge but also the poster who had his info wrong.

Re: My annoyance on genetic ignorance.

One thing to keep in mind is that the more varied our morphs become...the more blended they become....the more often we have different names for the same morph...and even the same name for different morphs....the worse it's going to get. Is it any wonder that people are going to get it mixed up???

I'm all for polite correction when it happens. The best we can do is educate one answer and correction at a time. And the more those of us who know are WILLING to keep doing those corrections and answering those questions...the better off we are. The folks who avoid the forums because of the misinformation found in them are at least in part responsible for not being willing to help hold back the flood of misinformation.

I was recently talking to a local would-be BP breeder who was thinking of buying a het ghost male from another local breeder. He asked me (pretty much direct quote): "Now, I asked him [the seller] this and he just wouldn't give me a straight answer: If I breed the het ghost to a normal female, how many ghosts would I get?"

I asked him if the theoretical normal female was het ghost, and he said no. He seemed pretty disappointed when I told him, "None."

There's no doubt in my mind that the seller of the het ghost knew EXACTLY how many ghosts you get from breeding a het ghost to a normal; he just knew that telling the buyer that wouldn't make him a sale.

In a case like that i hope your friend didnt buy the het ghost. If you ask a question about the animal for sale and the breeder does not give you an answer, thats just as bad as giving the wrong answer. Makes me wonder how many people out there have been duped into buying hets and got normals. The biggest problem i see with that is the over abundance of normals. Another problem is how to classify that animal. How do you know if you were sold an actual het animal that you just keep hitting bad odds on, or if its really just a normal? Then your stuck with something you cant sell for more than a normal even if it IS a het.

The people purposely passing on wrong info or lying about their animals are the ones i have an issue with. The ones that ask questions and try to educate theirselves are going to be the better breeders/keepers.

The ones who answer a question wrong should not take it to heart if they are corrected. They should learn from it and stick around to learn more. I agree that people should not bash, but correcting someone in an intelligent and nice way should always be done.

Re: My annoyance on genetic ignorance.

Guilty! I recently responded to a post on a silver bullet breeding.
I stated normals could be produced. BUT, a silver bullet is a pastel super cinny/black pastel. No normal potential.!!!
If some one is going to be breeding in the future they definately need to familiarize themselves with the morphs and combos. I suggest starting online and purchasing books like: Designer Morphs by John Berry.

LOL! Were you corrected?? See? Some people can laugh at theirselves about it and that shows the rest of us that you are not like some of the people who would never admit they were wrong. Not to mention it makes us feel a bit better about our own mistakes we might have made
