Rat tooth piercing
My 4 yr. old BP (1400g) gave himself a piercing while constricting a 86g rat last night. The tooth went from the inside bottom of the snake's mouth all the way through the flesh to the outside. The hole is about an inch or so away from the tip of his body (i.e. pretty deep in his mouth). There was blood, but he ate without any issue after that.
This morning the site of the wound looks fine - not infected or anything. A couple of scales are pushed aside, and there's some dried blood.
Just leave him alone and it'll heal? Or should I intervene?
Thanks!

Re: Rat tooth piercing
I would take him to a vet for assessment of the wound.
Would you breed a wobbler dog even though it had a cool coat?

Re: Rat tooth piercing
I'd throw on some Neosporin and observe it over time.

Neosporin WITHOUT the painkillers in it.

I feed live as well and I would like to add you might want to whack the mouse on the head prior to feeding. It knocks the mouse out for a bit so that you don't take the chance on it biting your snake.

I say put some Neo on it and watch it over time for signs of infection.

Yeah and then when the mouse comes too, its a pissed off mouse. :/
Either leave it completely dead or completely alive is my opinion.

Re: Rat tooth piercing
Just so it's clear, the rat didn't bite the snake. The tooth pierced the snake's skin when the snake got his mouth over the rat's face. I have observed that rats are far more docile than mice - does anyone else share this observation? I haven't had a rat try to bite yet, but the mice can be really nasty.

Yes, rats are way nicer than mice.
Would you breed a wobbler dog even though it had a cool coat?
