Aggressiveness during shed...

I was going to clean my guys cage out today. I feed him every Thurs and he usually comes out Sundays-Thurs well when I was taking him out of I noticed his colors were really dull and his eyes were blue. Well this time he was extra aggressive. He's always been pretty feisty but today he was going nuts when I took him out my cousin was a little freaked out watching lol. Is this a normal occurrence? Usually if he doesn't come out by Sunday-Monday I know he's in shed but I was planning on cleaning his tank out today I guess I'll wait until he's done shedding.

Yes its normal. They are more vulnerable at this time and have a harder time getting their bearings. Its best to let them relax and make sure you keep the temperature and humidity correct

I love when they shed....they are always so nice and shiny after!

My older is going through shed right now, her belly gets super pink, I don't like bothering them, looks like they had a terrible sunburn, and she acts like if she just had a horrible hangover...She's really tame, so I'm lucky with that. I did spot clean, and she never has a problem with that.

On the other hand, my other guy lets me know when he doesn't want to be bothered, and so if its not necessary, I leave him alone...

How the BP acts during shed definitly based upon each individual snake. I leave my BP alone during shed, but if I go into his cage to spot clean or to check on him he doesn't mind.

I've heard others say if they even put their hands in their BP's enclosures they get snapped at.

Personally, I think it's kind of nice that they have their own personalities.

I say it all depends on the snake. Yet most of the time they are not nice before shedding or during shedding. I have one BP that will even eat while he is in shed. Yet the main reason they are upset is because they can not see that well since their eyes have the film like cap over their eyes and are mistaking you for something that may hurt them. Hope I could give some nice advice.

Yeah the guy i talked to said baby and adult's will hiss and get Aggressive
during shedding it should me normal if he is still Aggressive when he done sheding you might have to ask a expert from there.

Thanks for the responses! I hadn't noticed he was about to begin shedding until I picked him up today and saw his skin was dull and his eyes were blue. As I stated in my first post he's always been a bit feisty. He's jumpy when picking him up but usually fine after he's out of the tank. However today he was going nuts and swinging everywhere I had to grab him with two hands and thats when I noticed his skin and eyes. So I had my cousin change his water while I was holding him and then put him back in the tank. I'll try after he's done shedding and nice and shinny again.

Not all Ball pythons get aggressive during shedding time. Though, it's best to leave them alone so they do not get stressed.

When a Ball python is showing signs of aggression during shed, it's because the snake is almost blind when in blue, and can barely see anything. So, due to that they can get aggressive because they feel that something is trying to attack them. When my Ball pythons are in shed, they aren't aggressive at all, and act like their normal selves. I tend to try not to bother them as much so they do not stress, but it's very rewarding to open up the tub one day and see that nice, clean shed. But it's also not nice when it's covered in feces.

My BPs are very tame even in shed, Im lucky with that, but I leave them alone anyways. Who knows if the shed even hurts touching their skin??

Also I used to feed them in shed, but now I just wait untill the next week same day to do it everytime they shed. I call it the "diet week" lol. This is a good time to take a weight update picture in the scale, and I usualy do.

I do the same thing with not feeding during shed. I also have read it is possible they could regurgitate if fed during a shed, even though that doesn't seem very likely, I don't like taking my chances. Better safe than sorry. I've had two Corns die from regurgitating their meal, so even if it isn't likely for one of my Ball pythons to die from regurgitation, I still worry a lot. When I don't feed during shed, I await till' the next week on feeding day to feed the snake if it skips the feeding day.
