How do you choose names for your Ball pythons?
How did/do you come up with the names you have for your Ball pythons? I know some of you don't have names for your Ball pythons, but you probably have named some pets before. How do you come about with the names that your snakes have? Do tell.
(..I am the worst snake-namer in the history of snake-namers.)

Re: How do you choose names for your Ball pythons?
I think we already had a thread on this, but I don't mind repeating it! My BPs are all named after Shakespearean characters, with the exception of Delilah... her name means "dark beauty" in Swahili, which seemed fitting for a beautiful dark snake from Africa (she was my first snake, before I decided to use a theme). Here are the others:
Pedro, 1.0 Mojave - Wanted a suave Spanish name for him, and this one is from the play Much Ado About Nothing.
Desdemona (Mona), 0.1 normal - She looked like a Mona the second I saw her! Also a character from Othello, my favorite of Shakespeare's plays.
Rosalind & Orlando, 1.1 het albinos - Named after the lovers from As You Like It since they were bought as a couple.
Toby, 1.0 pastel - Character from Twelfth Night; although I originally found his name off a list of Hebrew Bible names, and just thought it was cute.
Vincentio (Vinnie), 1.0 spider - From Measure for Measure, chosen because he just looks like a Vinnie. Now I love to call him "Vinnie the Spider," as it sounds like an Italian mobster - LOL.
Scout, 1.0 reverse Okeetee corn snake - Since these snakes originate from the Southern US, I decided to give him a Southern-sounding name... and Scout also goes along with a literary theme. (gimme a break, I'm a librarian! )
Lolo's Collection...
Ball Pythons: 0.4 Normals, 1.0 Pastel, 1.1 Mojaves, 1.0 Black Pastel, 2.0 Spiders, 0.1 Lesser, 1.0 Orange Ghost, 0.1 Honeybee
0.1 Spotted Python, 1.1 Stimson's Pythons, 1.0 Jungle Carpet Python
3.4 Corn Snakes, 1.1 Western Hognose Snakes, 1.2 cats, and 1.0 dog (47lb mutt)

I do not name my snakes I enjoy taking care of them & breed them for color. But they are not pets to me they are my collection just like expensive paintings or coins high valued & colorful.cats & dogs are pets may get some flack for this one but that how it is & I have a real nice collection.

Well mine was by accident! My son named our first Elizabeth...then our second was named Henry. At some point my hubby added King and Queen to their names so I would say now we need to go with names of Royalty.

I got my snakes names from their colors and patterns.

I could have not said it any better Greg!
When I first got into snakes years ago, yes I named a few. As of now, none of my snakes have names except for the few I named years ago (Jinx my corn, Loopy my BP who has neurological problems, and Sulawesi (Sula) my old blood). I no longer see the need to name them. They are very much loved, cared for, and prized animals to me.... but like Greg said, they are my collection. Owning, caring for, and breeding snakes is a hobby to me. And I absolutely love it!

Re: How do you choose names for your Ball pythons?
I use different ways of naming my BPs. Example: Fluffy was my first snake & I figured it would be kind of cool when I tell someone to come see Fluffy and they are expecting a small dog or something (lol I was young). I named Casper because I eventually want to make True Ghosts with him.
BPs:
1.1 Normal (Fluffy & Fiesty)
0.1 Pastel (Bee)
0.1 Lesser (Beauty)
1.0 Orange Hypo (Casper)
1.0 Het Red Axanthic (No Name Yet)
Others:
1.0 Bearded Dragon (Frank)
0.1 Golden Greek Tortoise (Sam)
0.0.3 Emperor Scorpions (The 3 Stooges)
0.0.1 Jungle Carpet Python
