BRB tubs, humidity questions
hey there, so we've got a pair of neonate BRB's, and we're currently housing them in tubs. i would LIKE to use newspaper as a substrate, so i wouldn't have to worry about them ingesting substrate while feeding, but for now we're using eco-earth, and moving them to an empty tub for feeding time. is newspaper an okay substrate to use for BRB's? i know it doesn't hold humidity well but, if i move the waterdish closer to the warm side, will that counteract the lack of substrate humidity? what about if i made them moist hides with a ziplock/tupperware container with a hold soldered out and lined with moist paper towels? are moist hides practical for BRB's?
is it the OVERALL (ambient?) humidity that must be 90-95%? or would a spot of high humidity (in this case, the moist hide) be adequate?
the reason i want to switch from eco-earth as substrate is because it is just plain messy, and we have white carpets. HORRIBLE, i know, but not much i can do about it right now.
also, i noticed when we first put in the eco-earth, after soaking it in a bucket and spreading it around the tub it was quite wet, and actually caused a few green spots or mildew to appear on the above plywood which makes up our rack.
basically, i'm just wondering weather a moist hide would provide adequate humidity.
and another question i had, can too low of humidity cause respiratory infections in BRB's?

A well-maintained, clean humid hide is adequate.

Re: BRB tubs, humidity questions
thank you, i haven't made the switch over to newspaper yet, our rack is going to be finished by sunday hopefully, and i think we'll make the switch then.
i have provided humid hides made of ziplock containers, and stuffed with moist paper towels. only one of them is using their hide! hopefully the female will figure it out soon enough. this is our first pair of BRB's and i'm pretty nervous about them.
