Heating and aspen bedding

ok when you have aspen bedding do you do by the temp in the bottom of the tub, or the bottom of the substraight

I go by the top of the tub but under the aspen to give me the reading I want. this prevents burn if they push the aspen out of the way.

eh i prefer the probe on the heat tape because for me it is easyer to controal and cnt come off but everyones diffrent

the thermoSTAT probe goes right on the heat tape. The thermoMETER probe goes inside the tub at the hottest point, which would be the plastic right above the heat tape under the substrate. You set this temp to 90-94*. That way if the snake moves the substrate or gets under it, it won't be exposed to higher temps than that.

What does everyone use to adhere the thermoMETER probe to the plastic tub?

Hi,

A spot of glue from a hot glue gun works well, sets safely very quickly and can be easily removed when you need to move the probe.

This is one of the reasons why a temp gun is so useful. When using bedding people will often use different amounts. The thicker the bedding the less heat. Your bp will nestle through some bedding to get the desired temp. When i spot clean the first thing i measure is the snakes temp then the surface temp. The surface temp will vary slightly depending on the depth of the substrate but all my bp body temps are 90degs or a few tenths within.

But to answer the question i put the probe on the heat source.If you put the probe on the substrate the temp will change with the thickness of the bedding.

yeah I check my snakes body temps too I seen anywere from 83-87 with the temp gun..

so do I piut my probe from myReptiTemp 500 on the UTH outside under the tank and if so how do I attach it to the UTH? Or do I put it on the glass inside my tank under the aspen?I also have a temp gun and it said snake Body temp was 79, top of aspen 75. both with gun. But my digital therometer whicih has the probe just hidden under aspen almost on top is showing 85-91 range please help

Probe goes outside the tank on the UTH. Secure it with aluminum tape, if you don't have any right now, duct tape will work for a while. The heat will loosen the adhesive though so get some aluminum tape.

How thick is the layer of aspen? It doesn't need to be more than 1/2" thick.
