EMERGENCY VET BILLS? Check this folks:

Hey I just read the thread about the guy/girl who dropped a hide on his snake and is worried that he might be injured, but cant cover vet bills. Then I see people saying they had to do some crazy stuff to cover vet bills. So to all of you, I offer this bit of information. My vet told me about it last visit, and I dig it. It turns any vet into a payment plan vet on YOUR terms, so check it and maybe it'll work for you.

And for the record, I have no affiliation with this company, I just wanted to pass on something that can help a lot of people in this nasty economic climate we live in.

    Enjoy.

while i dont see this being much more than a limited credit card, it could be an option. your vet would have to be on their list. then again some vets will do payment plans on their own.

    Ugh. Ok.

Link for providers in your area if you folks want to see if your vet is on the list. Just choose Veterinary, Veterinary Other, Exotic/Avian/Reptile in the drop down menus.

I really suggest that anyone looking into CareCredit think it through. If you qualify for the deferred interest plans, it's not bad, but the rates are sky-high when they kick in, and you might qualify for much better rates from your own, or another traditional, bank. If you end up with a really insane bill and have decent enough credit, it might be worth using it for the period of deferred interest and transferring the remaining balance to no/low interest balance transfer card.

I've used CareCredit, and I might again, but only with the deferred interest plans. No interest is still better than the low rates I get from my own credit unions/banks, but paying 25+% creeps me out, so CareCredit would be a last resort for something I couldn't pay off before interest kicked in. This forum isn't about financial planning, but I highly recommend having an emergency fund in place for things like vet bills and other things that matter to you. It's much easier to cut out frivolous expenses than to scramble to come up with huge sums at a moment's notice.

Re: EMERGENCY VET BILLS? Check this folks:

I agree with the deferred interest mess that can happen..

However, coming from someone who works at an emergency vet clinic, I can't even count how many times people have come in with a life or death type situation and it has been available for them to save their pet's life....

I'm not saying this is the best option for routine vet care, but by all means, if it were that option to save your pet (with a little bit of interest added) or putting my pet to sleep..... There would be no question...

Thank you for making a post about this, it opens up doors for people in a bind...

Just another Emergency Tech chiming in... I sure as heck couldn't qualify but it is great in those emergency situations where it means treatment or euthanasia.

Re: EMERGENCY VET BILLS? Check this folks:

I have also used Care Credit with my pets, but then I received a shock when I pulled it out after a rather expensive vet visit and they had decided to no longer accept it (as of noon the same day). Turns out that Care Credit lately had refused to pay a lot of the charges, and left them high and dry.

Verify before you plan to use it, that your vet still accepts it. I was lucky that I happened to have the money available, but it really hurt my wallet until the next pay day.
