    Cool or Scam?

Ok, so there is this new website called "Lockerz.com". Apparently it is made by the Co-owner of "amazon.com" and the CMO of "American Eagle Outfiters" It is an invitation-only website you you have to get an e-mail to join.

What you do is answer a question each day (ex/ What is your favorite professional sport?) and you get 2 "PTZ" which is sort of like the website's currency. You can also invite friends for 2 PTZ too. That is how you able to go to the website.

The currency adds up and eventually you will have enough for things like iPods, Video Games, Computers, Purses, ect. These are real life things that will be sent to your house! You can also use you PTZ to donate to pre-selected charities.

I know your first thought, "OMGzzzz This must be a scam!" and it was mine too, but now I am not sure. You can google its legitimacy and everyone seems to think it is legit. There are even youtube videos showimg poeple unbox their prizes!

On the other hand, I see no 3rd party advertisers on the website, so I ask myself, "Who is benefiting from this? No one seems to be making money, actually the opposite, they seem to be losing money giving away these expensive things!"

They do not take any information except for your name, birthday, and e-mail. (I lied about my birthday anyways). When you win an item, you give them your address so they can ship it to you.

I think that you could start getting spam mail or e-mail, but it's not like you don't get that anyway...

So what is your opinon? Cool new website, or scam? Please discuss!

I asked someone for an invite to check it out, so that means since I am a member, I can invite others too. If you wish to have access to the site, PM me your e-mail and I will send you an invite.

    This is their "about":
"Lockerz is the place to go to buy the coolest stuff at the lowest prices, watch exclusive video, discover new music, play the hottest games, hang out with your friends - and get rewarded for just about EVERYTHING you do on the site.

Our mission is to be your daily habit, not a site for your parents or grandparents looking for their long-lost friends from Kindergarten.

One other thing you'll love about Lockerz are PTZ (or "Pointz"). PTZ are Lockerz' proprietary loyalty "currency" that you earn whenever you buy, watch, play, share, invite friends, or even just show up on Lockerz. Redeem PTZ at the PTZ Place for incredible prizes, great products and dream experiences.

Too Good to Be True? Why are we doing this? To thank you for joining early. To build a Lockerz community of cool, stylish, cutting-edge people who love to buy great brands. To give you a taste of how PTZ will work when we go live this fall. And to test out different prizes and PTZ levels. That’s key. This version of PTZ Place is a test. PTZ levels will change when the full Lockerz site launches.

Lockerz is set to launch sometime in the Fall 09. Members who sign up now will get to explore and help shape the site before the launch. We hope you'll join us."

The two items that are BOLD are the two you should pay attention to. The fact that they are advertising as a "Ecommerce" website, but are not registered as one, as well as not being a "secured" website both point to a scam.

Just because they are supposedly not making any profit off of registrations/user activity, does not mean they are losing money either. From a personal stand point this is text book advertising scam. Giving your address will allow them to sell your information for other companies to send you advertisements in your mail. Giving them your email allows them to gain access to your email, computer information and even more dangerous, your personal information.

I highly suggest you do not use this website. If you value your privacy and your personal information, I suggest you head this warning. In all of my years working with computers, I've seen too many people fall for this. It's a shame these people don't use their marketing skills for better use than a mere scam.
