Re: My new toy
no hunting this season, in fact i've never been hunting before, but I plan to give it a shot next year First things first, making sure that when I take a shot it actually counts is among one of those "first" things, along with just getting used to gun ownership and the personal responsibilities therein.
Took the rifle for its first test today for some outdoor shooting. I figured a suitable "ceremony" for my first firearm would be to blow apart some milk jugs filled with water and some watermelons, firing from standing and kneeling at maybe 100-150 yards. It wasn't an incredible distance but certainly the farthest I've ever shot.

Thats sweet. A gun that shoots snakes. Imagine a snake flying at you at several hundred feet per second. RUN!

lol yeah I can imagine.. It was hard picking out this gun, given all the other choices out there.
In the end it was the best value for performance vs $ out there (gander mtn was having a sale, got it with a nice discount off msrp AND the scope came free). This is also my first "bigger caliber" rifle I've ever shot, and a great all around long range hunting rifle for just about any american big game. I've even heard people using 180 or 200 grain 300 win mag rounds for brown bear and moose. Either way, it makes quick work of watermelons. I couldn't find a piece of the shell of the watermelon bigger than 2 square inches.
I've always had a "wishlist" of firearms, consisting mostly of "classic" guns.. Good ol' 1800s style winchester, a colt peacemaker, and a 44 magnum are way at the top. Semi-auto rifles and pistols never interested me, and neither have shotguns (though both are fun to shoot).
