Re: Anyone here tryiing to lose weight?
I'm always trying to lose weight, LOL... I've struggled with it since I was a teenager, and have my dad's side of the family to thank for that. Even when I was figure skating 3-5 hours a day, I was still the "chubby girl" on the ice. Anyway, I've come to terms with that over the years, and am actually healthier now than I was in high school.
Six years ago I weighed 250 lbs (I'm just shy of 5'6"), and now I'm around 195... 55 lbs down, and I'd like to lose another 25-30. I've been every weight from 130-250 in my adult years, and found that my large frame looks best around 155-165 - so I just want to be somewhere in that ballpark. It's tough, though!! I hit a plateau about 2 years ago, and haven't lost (or gained) anything since... time to step things up, I guess.
Fyi, I don't believe in DIEts, and don't follow any particular routine - mostly because my schedule is too erratic. I just try to do something active every day, usually walking/hiking with my dog... also love yoga and calisthenics, which I usually do with videos at home. I'm very limited because of a bum knee (old skating injury, surgery recommended years ago), so it's low-impact or nothing until that's fixed. Weight loss can be really frustrating, but unfortunately for some of us it's just a way of life. Good luck to everyone here!

I dropped about 40 pounds just running with my dogs in about 3-4 months. And I gave up soda, unless I'm eating out. Trying to get in shape for basic training

Re: Anyone here tryiing to lose weight?
My boyfriend and I have joined the gym (again) about 6-7 months ago. I must say, working out is so much better than gaming on the internet. We used to "raid" on World of Warcraft for 20+ hours a week! Dumped that, got into the gym and started eating healthier. I'd much prefer this over any game!
So far I've lost ~22 pounds. I'm looking to lose around 20 more, maybe 30. I've always been on the chunkier side so I really don't know how much body will look without all this extra weight. I have changed my diet a little, I try to eat as much fiber and protein as I can, in little amounts that way I don't feel the need to go grab some sugar. I recently made these fiber muffins from the brand Fiber One, and put a scoop of protein powder in them. They turned out really good, and I'll be keep those in the house more often!
My boyfriend has gained about ~10 pounds, all muscle. He, of course, had muscle memory so he put it all back on pretty fast. I'm going slow and steady, and we're meeting in the middle!
Good luck to everyone else who is trying to lose weight! It's an amazing adventure to see how your body can transform!

I agree. I used to have trouble keeping weight on because of swimming.

LMAO - It's true though, swimming is great! I love to swim, and lost 30lbs when I lived in an apartment with a pool. Now I live in the middle of the city, and it's hard to find a place to swim... so I recently joined 24-hour Fitness, mostly to get access to their pool. Haven't actually gone yet, but that's another story.

Re: Anyone here tryiing to lose weight?
Oh, and although I said earlier that I don't believe in diets, I do believe in eating well. I don't deprive myself or count calories, but think about everything that goes into my mouth - and have learned to read labels. I also cut things out of my diet gradually, over the first year of my "lifestyle change," as I call it.
First I cut out fast food, anything deep-fried, and ALL meat except occasional chicken & turkey... fish is super healthy too, but I can't stand it, and I don't eat pork for religious reasons. It was hard cutting out the beef, though, since I used to love a good cheeseburger or steak. I learned that ground turkey - which is usually 99% fat free - makes a great substitute in spaghetti, meatloaf, and as burgers. It's all about healthy but tasty substitutions, at least for me. And of course I try to avoid overloading on sugar & carbs, but my sweet-tooth wins over once in a while. Thinking about baking some cookies right now... mmmmmmm.
P.S. I suggest you all check out the book "Eat This, Not That" (has a few volumes now). It shows you which foods to select at restaurants & grocery stores, and some of the choices will surprise you! For instance, did you know a glazed donut is better than a bagel with cream cheese??
