More or less, they are talking about when it's more extreme--if the mouse is completely covered in substrate and it swallows all that... you might have a problem. One or two pieces is probably not going to hurt it.
I know how panic-inducing it could be, so if your snake will take it in a separate tank, I would do it if, for nothing else, my own peace of mind. =3
