    Would you breed her

I am debating on whether or not to breed one of my females this season, She is 2 years old and 1179g (empty). Would you breed her this season or wait another year.

She is at the very low end of the breeding weight so yes you could make the attempt.

If she takes she'll be perfectly fine. Once she starts developing follicles she will start slamming food and most likely put on some weight.

    Re: Would you breed her

well thats good news for me.. cause my two heaviest girls weigh 1300g and 1199g on empty. I tried them both and the 1199g girl locked with the male. So I just may have some pins this year good luck with your breeding plans.

    Re: Would you breed her

are you going with the 1200 gram rule?

i voted no, because personally i want to start breeding my snakes at 3 years or 1500 grams. But that doesn't mean that my way is the better way

if you do decide to breed her good luck!

    Re: Would you breed her

Alot of people will argue that if they are under 3 years or under 1500 grams they are too young/small to breed. But this is how I see it:

    1) In the wild they don't get "arranged marriages" like in captivity, they find eachother during mating season no matter the size.
    2) Some people have had males way under 800 grams(preferred breeding size) lock up with females and have the female go onto produce eggs.
    3) I just feel that if she is locking, ovulating, and laying eggs and is at least over 1000 grams you should be fine, I wouldn't go lower than 1000 grams with a female but that's just my opinion I'm sure there have been females under 1000 grams who have produced.

It's all just your preference and what you think is right. I mean say you have a Albino female who is a bad eater and is 4 years old but only 900 grams, who is to say that she is still too small for breeding, She might not lay 10 eggs for you but she might give you 4 eggs.

Good Luck with the breeding and if you do choose to breed her this year let us know how it goes!
    Cheers!

    Re: Would you breed her

Just because an animal can breed doesn't mean it should. I know of 12 year old human females who have gotten pregnant. I wouldn't breed a BP till its 3rd season and over 1500 grams. At the end of the day I am not judging anyone who does any different but you did ask. For the record I have never breed any snakes. I have breed other animals before and with snakes as with any animal there is always a "when they can" and "when they should" criteria. You have to ask yourself, do you want to be someone who breeds when they can or when they should. I won't even breed a female mouse under 12 weeks old, and they are feeders.
