Re: Tubs: Opaque or Transparent?
I use tubs with lockable lids and used them to breed in last year with no issues.
They are easily see through, although part of the lid is opaque.
I can watch breeding and feedings from across the room, they careless whether I'm watching or not
They just go about their business.

Re: Tubs: Opaque or Transparent?
my tub is pretty transparent and he doesn't really seem to care about it. he just stays in his hide most of the time but it seems he likes to stick his head out and check out whats going on in the rest of the room. he's happy and i'm happy i get to look at him if he comes out of his hide.
edit* heres a pic of my tub. ignore the clothes.. he lives in my closet.

Re: Tubs: Opaque or Transparent?
Personally I believe tubs are better to view the snake itself then a tank. In a tank you pretty much need hides and all you're really looking at is a pretty enclosure.
I don't use hides in my tubs (unless absolutely needed) and I can actually see the snakes. They don't seem to mind me watching them at all.

Our seemingly empty tank is very pretty, LOL!
Thanks for the replies. I didn't know how visible snakes are in tubs, and wondered if you can't see them at all and can only hold them for so long, why bother even having a snake? Nice to know you can see them clearly.

Re: Tubs: Opaque or Transparent?
I can see through the tubs but not the lids. The worst part about tubs is when your snake is doing something pic worthy but when you try to open the tub they stop...
On the other hand, I couldn't believe the change in feeding response since moving my guys into tubs. I'm talking about striking and constricting F/T's for 3-5 minutes before letting them go...wow...

Here is Sharon in her tub.. As you can see she's pretty visible. She's in a 34 quart Sterilite.

Re: Tubs: Opaque or Transparent?
Are you asking if you should use opaque or transparent/translucent tubs?
Use transparent tubs. While bps don't need a constant light cycle with lights on a timer and all that, they still need to know when its day and night.

My iris tubs are crystal clear.
