Sometimes that's not an option. Either the larger prey is too large (as with the jump from rat pup to small adult), you can't get appropriate sizes at your local shop - or you have a snake like my Delilah, who will ONLY eat mice. When Delilah got too big for one mouse, I had to increase the prey number, since all attempts to switch her to rats (both live & F/T) have failed... so now she gets 3, sometimes even 4 at a time, since her weight is around 600g.

And to answer the OQ, you need to put in one at a time, or they can be harassed by the other mouse while working on the first. Like the other poster above said, you just throw in one and wait until they're done - jaw realigned - and then offer the second/third/etc. Takes a little time, but if you have multiple snakes like I do, it's not that much extra... since I use the time in-between to feed the others.
