    rat shortage? seriously.

sunday, i went to my local pet shop where i get feeder rats and they said they were out until tuesday. i went back today and they said they're out. there's a rat shortage, they won't have any for a while and were trying to get some breeding themselves. i got a mouse and went to the counter and casually mentioned, "rat shortage, huh?" to the guy at the counter and he says "yeah, the biggest supplier, supplies nationwide, had an electrical fire and lost their rats and won't have a good supply going for 2 months." anybody hear that anywhere else? this is a local shop in plano tx, suburb of dallas.

They probably got their feeders through Big Cheese. If that's the case then yup, it's true.

Maybe check craigslist to see if anyone has advertised their own feeders. I see some in my area do.

    Re: rat shortage? seriously.

I hear there's a new place coming along. It's called Ratamatic. Right now they're just dealing with a few breeders and stores.

I hear they're offering top quality feeders. What they're aiming for is to have regular orders with stores and breeders for certain size rats in pre-arranged quantities.

It's sort of like knowing you've got someone caring for your individual rats.

Say you need 80 meds and 120 smalls every six weeks. What they're intending to do is have rats set aside specifically to produce that many rats just for the person who ordered them.

Apparently there is a maximum capacity to the space they have to keep rats in and once that capacity is achieved, they will not be able to take on regular customers any more.

So, keep your eyes peeled, don't miss out. You'll be sorry if you do.

I just got a load of frozen rats last week from rodent pro.. However, the 'small' rats that I paid for are really much more of a weaner size. Maybe it's just 'that time of the year'

I live in Anaheim Ca and our local pet store has been out of rats and mice too, they keep saying that its cause their supplier screwed up their order but now that I have heard about this I am wondering if they are lying???
