Isn't one of the defining characteristics of a pastel it's blushing? This snake has almost no blushing and seems to be almost solid black or at most has the fading of a normal. The area that is seeing blushing is the pattern, which doesn't happen normally in a pastel (or at least isn't part of the traits commonly associated with pastels).

A blushed head, and green eyes, and white belly along with the yellow coloration is what defines a pastel. There are various lines that have different characteristics though.
Typically Nerd Lemons have lots of contrast between black and yellow but not as much blushing as you would see on a graziani pastel. At this point the lines don't really matter as much as the individual animal but you can have a pastel with not so much blushing.

It doesn't much look like the snake has a blushed head either :/

I don't think the posted snake is a pastel either.
It could be one of those weird situations where the pigmentation didn't produce itself well in those areas during shed. There was a member here that had a spider go from normal to looking axanthic after a shed and then slowly gain its color back during subsequent sheds.
Edit: Here's the spider thread...

He said it's always had that coloration, thus opening the possibility that it could be a morph, or it might just be a kooky flaw in protein production that happened when it was developing and had this visible effect on it.
Or a Paradox.

The coloring looks interesting. If you get a better picture (lighting/coloring) be sure to post it!!!

Call me crazy, but I think it kinda looks like a Vanilla BP: http://www.reddogreptiles.com/images...nilla-ball.jpg
Since he came from a pet shop, most likely it's just a VERY cool looking normal... you should breed him, and see if the coloring is genetic!
