Re: Is it hard to keep a corn ?
My first snake happened to be a Corn snake, and in my opinion it has been the EASIEST snake to care for out of the snakes I have/had. To me, there are really no bad sides in keeping these snakes. Colubrids are not really my type of snakes since I like the more heavily bodied snakes (pythons & boas), but Corns are really rewarding to have.
Corn snakes have great feeding responses, and that makes them really easy to cooperate with when feeding time comes around each week. They have very strong feeding responses, and I haven't had a Corn refuse a meal (well, besides one, but it had mites so I understand why). You always want a great feeder, and Corns seem to make a pretty good job out of that.
Corn snakes are also very friendly and docile snakes. I haven't ever been bitten by a Corn snake, ever. It seems as if it is very unlikely for a Corn snake to bite, but you always have to remember that the nicest snakes do bite because anything with a mouth bites, and this can even be from a simple feeding response instead of an actual defensive bite. All in all, these snakes are very docile and extremely easy to care for.

Corn snakes are completely docile and it is very unlikely for one to bite, but anything with a mouth bites. To me it seems that very rarely will a Corn snake ever bite you defensively. I have a Kingsnake, and only have been bitten once by him, but that was a simple feeding response and I do not blame him for that, it was my mistake. Corn snakes are curious and adventurous so they do slither around a lot, but don't seem to mind being handled.

Re: Is it hard to keep a corn ?
A corn was my first snake. very docile and if a heat emitter goes out, they can tollerate it. In general a very hardy snake. And have a potential to get big. Mines only three and its already 5ft. they only told me it would get three.
I would deffinatly suggest this as a first or second snake. He has snapped at me twice but both were my fault. We movved and we walkied him over in his cage and lets just say it was a bumpy ride. so he was agitated and i stuck my hand in there. so really my fault, and if you hold them a couple times a week should be fine.
I keep my cage at a temp for basking spot at like 88 degrees to 90. (conversion to celcius -32 then divid by 2) Only do this if they have a colder area to go to. my cold side is at about 70 degrees. I have a timer on my basking spot(not needed). It goes on at 8am and then goes off at 5pm. This also gives my cage a varient fron night to day.
For the cage terrain or bottom, i use a relistic forest bark.
I have two hides. one a half log and for the basking spot a rock that is hollow on the inside.
I also have logs that go upwords so he can climb and move around.
This is just my set up, you can just have a simple set up small cage with a news paper bed and one hid on the warm side, and with a heat mat. this is just my set up. I lke to see my snake happy.
good luck
