Touble holdin in moisture and eat. Little help?

Im having touble keepin my tank warm enough at night when i turn the light off and even when i have it on it still is a little cooler than normal. Is there a good way to insulate it or do i just need to buy more lights, or UTH. Or maybe a heating rock?

try ceramic heaters. i use them in the winter. all lights and heaters placed on one side and i drape three huge thick towels over the other end to lock in some heat. that way i can control the temp by shortening the covrage of the towel. atleast thats my method. im sure you will hear a lot. a def no on the heat rock. im nervous on the uth as well depending on what substrate you have.

You can get another uth or ceramic heater! NO HEAT ROCKS! They will burn your snake!

Do you already have a UTH? If not, I suggest you get one. They can be left on 24/7 (with a thermostat attached) unlike daylight bulbs. If you already have a UTH on a thermostat, and you aren't having humidity problems, then I would suggest a CHE or an infrared bulb.

All heat sources must be regulated in some way, no matter which you choose. What kind of heat source are you using now? I prefer a UTH for the hot side, CHE to keep up ambient temps. A thermostat of some kind is required to prevent these from over heating the enclosure.

If you want to insulate the tank, there are a couple of things that are good. The first is called foam board. You can get it at Wal-mart in the school/ office supplies section, usually next to the poster board stuff. Another option is styroprene insulation. You can get it by the sheet at most home improvement stores. You can use either one of these to tape to the sides of the tank to insulate it. As for the screen top, You can also use these same materials or cardboard to close in the top. I cut one piece the exact size of the screen and then cut it into smaller panels about 4 inches wide. Then I wrapped each panel in aluminum foil. This helped keep heat and humidity in and also allowed me to add or take away panels as necessary to maintain the temps/humidity...

Uth on hot side plugged into a dimmer or thermostat. If your room is not temperature controlled your temps will fluctuate so a thermostat is better. In the spring and fall people like to shut off their thermostats in their house and open the windows. When the room temp changes so will the temps in your enclosure.
Usually in the summer humidity is not as much of a problem as in the winter as AC adds moisture to the air and your heater takes it out(depending on where you live). If you notice your animal going into shed you can throw a damp towel on top(2/3) of your enclosue and you can get a 15-20% bump in humidity.
