Eli is a decent QB, Cassel isn't.

Eli has had the benefit of having an excellent team around him since he got into the league. He didn't want to go to a struggling team (Chargers at the time), and whined and cried his way to New York. If he went to a team with a bad o-line ala David Carr, he wouldn't even be starting right now. Cassel did have a better year last year, and it's pretty amazing how a QB that hadn't started a game since high school, had so much success in the NFL. I would still need to see more out of him to propel him above Eli as an NFL QB, but statistic-wise, he did have the superior year.

    Thank You.

I agree with you 110%. That is was kinda ticked when the Chiefs gave him such a large contract only after one SUCCESSFUL season. That season could have been a fluke...only time will tell. BUT...compared to Eli last year...well yeah. He did better. I don't know how you argue otherwise?

Even though you have one season to judge him by...I don't know how someone wouldn't consider him a decent QB. Like you said...he had a better season than Eli. Must be nice for Eli to have TWO RBs who both went over the 1k yard mark last year to open up the passing game. Pretty sure the Patriots didn't have a single 1k yard rusher. Eli has it good.

Well I guess not EVERYONE thinks Eli is better than Cassel.

I like Cassel, I also think he has the potential to put the chiefs in a playoff position in a division that sucks as bad as the raiders, the broncos, and as unlucky as the chargers. He has two highly over looked WR with Bowe and Bradley and potential running game with Johnson (all assuming he spends as much time on the field as in the court room).

In conclusion I believe Cassel will be a good qb to keep towards the end of the season when he is healthy and in the groove with an ever surprising KC team!

    I like your optimism!

I'm not to certain we are playoff bound YET. I am predicting 6 wins. But I believe Cassel is a QB you can build a team around. Last year the Chiefs were the youngest team in the league. As stated, the AFC West is weak, so the Chiefs are not THAT far away from being a competitor within the conference. Well...they are at least on the right track. I will say that next year we will surprise people.

Ugh and don't get me started on Larry Johnson. He plays when he wants to. I was hoping we would trade him away. Instead, we traded away Jarred Allen and gave LJ the big contract! Ugh!

His stats were from when he was with New England. New England has an awesome team, lets see how he does with the chiefs. Then I will give him credit.

Re: Official Week 2 BP.net Fantasy Thread...

i look at it like this... if joey harrington or matt leinhert or some other schmuck was the QB for the Pats, would they have been good? probably not. the fact is, the superior coaching he received allowed Cassel to keep himself ready and effective, even while playing backup for the most amazing man ever to don a football uniform.
is Cassel technically unproven? yes. is he a good NFL quarterback? yes, i'm not sure how you can say he's not. will he have a good season with the chiefs? depends more on the chiefs other pieces than it has to do with the QB... remember, in the NFL, you not only need a QB who is accurate and makes good decisions, but you need receivers that can stay on the same page with QB and run pristine routes.
