50% Pos. Het Lav, with "Marker"

I didn't want to post pics of this young 50% het Lav girl until I had some evidence of whether or not my hunch about her was correct. As you can see in the pic, she has a big area of "light/yellowish" pigmentation on her side-it's almost like she has the gene for Lavender Albino, and it is "trying" to express itself. I had a VERY strong feeling that this indicated she was a true het.

Well, I put special effort into breeding her to our Lavender male this season, even though she was a bit small (1300 gms). It worked, and surprisingly she laid a pretty substantial clutch-6 good eggs. First a couple pics of her:

Anyway, her eggs pipped this week, and, as you can see, my hunch was correct-though the odds were not good (1 Lavender out of 6). Anyone else out there been able to prove out possible hets having this (or other) color/pattern incicators?

Very interesting marker, Brad! Have you noticed this on any of her siblings?

No-held back four siblings and she's the only one to show that marker. By the way, it is MUCH more noticeable in person-doesn't photograph well.

I see what you're talking about Brad, I don't have any Lavenders myself but I'll point Justin Kobylka to this thread, he's produced MANY Lavender Albino Hets.

Very cool! Looks like that girl has a bit of a paradox spot with albinism showing through.

I've never found any consistent marker on het lavenders that would help pick real hets out of possible hets. You got lucky with that girl...

Thanks Justin-I was just sure she would prove out. Next season we'll see about her four sisters....

May be it was a marker, may be not.

After all you still had 50% shot
