Switching from 5 days to 7 days...

I tried searching for this question in this forum...and I know I've seen it, but since I had no luck...

At what weight to do you stop feeding your bp every 5 days? and switch to every 7?

In my situation, if I was to put a mouse in everyday, he will eat it...and I won't be doing that, so I can't go by "until he rejects it" he's already 300 grams. I fed him yesterday, today he was out, searching for food (this is not the first time), I even wriggled my fingers (behind the glass) and he went for it. Yes I do feed the appropriate weight, and yes, his setup is A-OK. This has nothing to do with a stressed BP.

And so for the time being, to satisfy his appetite, I feed every five days, but I am concerned of him going obese, and I don't want to wait till he becomes obese to decide that he needs to be on a diet. And so I'm just wondering what's a good weight to start feeding every 7 days...

    Thanks!
    Anthony

Re: Switching from 5 days to 7 days...

    3 years old. lol
But, my snakes are usually set up to breed once they reach the proper age and weight--so even as adults, they eat every 5 days for part of the year, and only eat every 7 if their weight is where it should be.

If you can see skin between the scales when the snake is in a relaxed position, it may be too fat. It it's a juvenile, it's really not a concern, they tend not to get fat unless power-fed. They just grow.

You CAN feed a ball python every 7 days right out of the egg. They grow more slowly. You can feed them every 5 days--they grow faster. My yearlings are already over 800 grams, and they eat every 5 days. Their proportions are fine--they're just huge, not fat.

Re: Switching from 5 days to 7 days...

alot of mine will eat every day. if hes 300 grams you might want to look into feeding 2 mice or switching to rats. sometimes if you dont they tend to grow slow.

i feed my males and females differently due to what was already stated, but i do typically feed my males every 5 days till they are around breeding weight and just before breeding season i might go to every 5 days for some if i feel they need more.
for females most of the time they get fed every 5 days, just like stated in the post before this one.

Re: Switching from 5 days to 7 days...

I feed all my snakes every 5 days until they reach about 500 grams. All my snakes that are going to breed I will continue to feed until the desired weight. Then they get switch back to every 7 days. It also depends on the the snake I have one female who seems to do better on a 6 day schedule. I try every 5, some times she eats sometimes she wont, but she stays pretty consistent on the 6 day schedule.
