The new scale came in, help please?

    Got the new scale! YAY

So...my babies both just ate (and both pooped yesterday) so I was wondering how many days I should wait until I can weigh them?

You can weigh them whenever you want as long as you make sure to wait 48 hours after a meal to do so.

Re: The new scale came in, help please?

On my growth sheets I have a column that says "Empty" Y or N. I consider empty to be after a defecation, and more than 3 days after a feeding. I usually weigh mine after they defecate and depending on when they were fed last determines whether I mark them empty or not. I also weigh them after a shed and mark that as such...

I was hoping to weigh her before I fed her...well it turns out that FIVE MINUTES after I fed her the postal guy showed up with the scale. >.< Literally. And She just shed and defecated yesterday. It would have been nice to know he was coming today. Haha. But anyhow, if I wait two days after she eats, considering she just shed and defecated yesterday, how close to her empty weight will the new weight be?

She won't be empty until, well, until she's empty. When she poops is when she'll be empty.

Well I meant how close would this weight be to the empty weight, after digestion and all that occurs. I know its not empty, but since she digested the prey item, would it be a big difference?

I'm not trying to be mean here.

If you put a 100 gram rat into your snake, your snake will weigh 100 grams more than it did prior to feeding.

Until it poops, it will weigh 100 grams more.

Once it poops, it will then be empty. That weight should be more than it's prior weight before eating the 100 gram rat, but less than 100 grams.

I may not be writing it clearly, but I think that should be understandable.

    Well you're not being mean.

I just guess I don't understand how the acids in the stomach dont dissolve some of the rat before she poops.

    Ahhh, l see.

The acids do dissolve the rat and it is digested, rendering it from rattis norwhatever to ratis poopis, changing it's configuration and weight.

The 100 gram rat will not produce 100 grams of poop. It might be 80 or even 70 grams of poop which is, or should be, a net gain of 20 to 30 grams for your snake.

Until it pees. Then that weight goes down a bit more.
