Battling Scale Rot Again.... : (
I'm sad to say that mr and Mr. Belt are battling scale rot again. I recently moved him into a new tank (36X18) and put in fresh cocoa fiber. As many of you know this substrate comes in the form of a dense brick that needs to be hydrated for it to expand, in getting used to the new tank size I have added to much water and that I belive is the cause of the problem. He is about to shed, the rest of the belly is a nice pink and my amazing vet just called in a prescription of Flamazine that I can pick up tomorrow in my town which is an hour away. So with all things considered I should be glad I noticed ti before it became severe, that he is about to shed, and that I'll have medicine first thing in the morning. I'll let you know how he does, hes on news paper now.

Since this has occurred before you might want to consider a permanent change to a different substrate. If you prefer a loose bedding then perhaps aspen might be the better choice. Glad you caught it early on though.

i surely would not continue to use the same bedding. use newspaper or aspen.

I usually dont have problems with cocoafiber, the stuff is actually pretty amazing when its used right. I accedentally made a mistake to hopefully learn from.

Cocofibre.....is dirt. You really think it is worth it to risk scale rot and having to clean up DIRT?
No offense but you have made the mistake TWICE.
Change substrate to aspen or paper towels immediately. Your snake needs to be in a clean and dry environment while the scale rot heals.

You hope to learn from it.... BUT.. your thread title says "again" so you've already made this mistake and HAVEN'T learned???
Change substrates.. it's the best thing for your snakes health.

I would change the substrate if I were. If it's happened before it will happen again. I use newspaper because it's free and easily cleaned. You could also use paper towels because they help soak up the mositure. I really don't suggest anything but those two substrates because they are fool proof, and you don't have to worry about your BP eating the substrate and dying.

I use only cocofibre and never had a problem. You just need to read the instructions and add the amount of water it says, don't guess! Let it soak then mix and leave over night before using it in his cage. It is fine if used right!
