Infrared Temp Gun or Digi-Therm w/Probe
Which would be better for getting accurate temps? The infrared temperature guns or digital thermometers with probes?
Thanks!

Re: Infrared Temp Gun or Digi-Therm w/Probe
Well they both measure different things. Temp guns will measure surface temperatures and the digi thermometers will measure ambient air temperature.
I think they are both good to have when you start out but over time you will probably end up just using the temp gun.

The temp gun is much easier and cheaper to use if you have multiple tanks/tubs! If you have one tank/tub then its just a personal preference!

It come to the same thing...Both are accurate but I will & do prefer the digital thermometer with probe because you can leave it on till batteries die...which will be like in 2 - 3 moths & just see the temp no need to aim & all that...but like I said your choice...

Re: Infrared Temp Gun or Digi-Therm w/Probe
I've opted to go with an infrared temp gun (got one on E-Bay for 16$!!!) my big girl will NOT leave things alone inside her tank so I've given up on using any sort of probes except for the hygrometer.
PS - Infrared temp guns are fun to play with

I would say temp gun, but I just use a digital thermometer.

Re: Infrared Temp Gun or Digi-Therm w/Probe
I have and use both and I really really really like playing with the tempgun!
The only problem I have with the temp gun is that when you point it a a heat source (heat lamp for example) the temp varies depending on how close you are to it. But if you are measuring normal temp things, it is pretty much the same no matter how far away you are. (But the only time I ever need to measure say, a heat lamp, is if I'm playing with the tempgun, so its not even a problem!
Don't get me wrong, measing your ball pythons's hot spot is not near hot enogh for there to be a temp difference depending on how close you are.
^^^^^^^You can probably disregard the above, I just decided to ramble lol^^^^^^^^

I use both. I use temp gun for checking gradients. I use the probes for monitoring for fluctuations and humidity.
Now if I could find a UVB meter for my bearded dragon I would be set.
