    Naked rat ♀ ....

I would love to breed her to another naked rat. Dont know how to go about this or if this is smart. Just need facts if someone has done this.

I believe the hairless trait is recessive in rats, so you could produce hets and breed them to the parents or eachother, or just get another hairless rat

Pretty high. Keep her as a pet, but don't breed her.

I just produced my first hairless (a dumbo boy). He's awfully cute, but he's going to have to be food, unfortunately.

well thats the only reason why I wanted to breed her, just for food.
Mayb keep one of her youngins. But what if I got a hairless male and breed him to a fancy rat would things go wrong then?

No, it's recessive, so unless the female also carries the hairless gene, then all the babies would be furred.

    Re: Naked rat ♀ ....

Is the hairless a double rex or a full on hairless(recessive)?

Double rex hairless(patchwork) can breed together and the females can lactate.

I'm breeding double rex groups and doubles to single rex and doubles to regular hair.

The killer thing about double rex's are they look different about every molt they have.

This is one of my males...

    And the following week, lol.

And now he looks like a Siamese, crazy! lol

Definately need to determine if its a double rex hairless that loses its hair after a few weeks or if its the recessive hairless. If I forget to check back on this thread, feel free to pm me, I am not extremely far from you and have quite a few male double rex hairless dumbo rats that I really don't know what to do with.

I breeed alot of hairless rats-some double rex some true hairless. I;ve never had a problem with the mothers not having enough milk or such. I do however notice that the babies are a little smaller than standards.

    Re: Naked rat ♀ ....

Hew is a mismarked siamese (blazed on nose).... note the tan color as a baby

There are like 9 different varieties of rex that go from looking much like a standard, to short coat, patched, naked, curly, whispy, etc

Back to the OP: The trouble with breeding a pet store or feeder bin found "hairless" variety is not knowing the genetics & not knowing if you would run into lactation issues.

I'm not real sure why you are seeking to bred the hairless as feeders outside of just having a naked rat rather than a haired one, but I would laike to add to the already good chance of finding lactation issues, the hairless are notorious for having small litters.
