Wild mouse poplulation, in my garage....

I've had my feeder mice and rats, literally hundreds, breeding in my garage for about 4 years....never had a wild mouse problem in there. About 3 mos ago, I sold off all of my rats. I still breed mice, but no longer have any rats. Since I got rid of my rats, wild mice have been rampant in my garage. Mouse poop everywhere..I set traps and have caught 3 just last night.....My question is....Do you think that the wild mice smelled the rats and stayed away, but now all they smell are mice feel its a free for all???

Could be. Rats predate on mice. I've had pet mice in the past that were always stressed if I kept them in the same room as the pet rats.
