Ok today I went to the Portland Reptile Expo in Portland ME. I didn't really have much money to buy anything that I really wanted but my father got me this "male" anery in a trade he did with some of his geckos he brought up to give to Regal Reptiles.
Now its a gorgous snake, about 3 1/2 feet long, almost 400g, and I think it might actually be a ghost. Now when I got home I took out the snake to show my brother (15) who did not come to the expo with me and we ended up getting in a little argument about who was longer, this snake or my 07 "female" amel who is about the same length. So at one point this argument got very heated (not in a bad way but it was funny) and we went down stairs and I took out my amel, Citrus, and layed them on the floor next to each other(I know! I know! breaks every quaretine rule. Its not something I usually do I'm sorry don't yell at me!). When as soon as that happened Citrus started getting all jerky and I'm thinking maybe shes being respondsive to the male and I wanted to see how this played out so I left them be. Well the suppossed female then crawled onto the suposed male's back and started rubbing her chin along the back and chasing him around. I took them apart and was very confused. So I then I put them in a 20gallon tank so they wouldn't dart and hide under something in my room. Once again Citrus the "girl" started courting the "male" rubbing her chin and chasing him. Then "she" started to try getting her tail under his and breed him. The anery wanted nothing to do with it for the most part but did slow down for a bit and seemed to allow the amel to try to breed "him". This whole thing did go on for about 20mins but eventually I did seperate them and they are in there own enclosures now.
Now I'm pretty sure at this point Citrus is not a she after seeing that bit but it shocked me because I've had them both probed before, Citrus about 6months ago and the other snake at the show today. Does this make the anery 100% a female if my amel reacted that way to it or is there a chance that since it was in an enclosure with other adult corns that its could smell like a female that was in the enclosure? Any info would help because this really did screw up my breeding plans for next year!?
Also it would be great if you guys could tell me weather "he" is a ghost or just a plain old anery. "He" seems really light in color for an anery and doesn't have very much black. Thanks for any help!
