I got a new snake today, we really only paid for the 8ftx2ft enclosure she came with so the rehab she will need isn't that big of a deal to me. The girl broke up with her boyfriend and broke her hand and the landlord was coming to inspect the house so the snake had to go. She just couldn't care for the snake by herself and the landlord didn't know about it. The snake has a beautiful temperament so once she is fixed up I think she will be good for animal demos.
The red tail is about 4years old, has what look like burns from the open heat light in the tank, wounds from live prey, and is very overweight. The cage was full of dry dusty substrate and there was no water bowl. They have had her and a ball for a couple months, they said the people they got her from were feeding her a large rabbit every week. She is so overweight, she actually has fat rolls which I have never seen that bad on a snake. She is roughly 9ft and feels like she weighs more than 60 pounds. I thought it was a burm till I walked closer, she is just massive. I am putting her on a major diet.
I am wondering if the cage is too big and I might have to have my step dad put a divider in it to make it a little shorter, she takes up less than a 1/6 of the tank curled up. It just looks too big and open for her.
