    Whats up with this?

I fed my ball python just a second ago. I placed the rat hopper into the tub and it struck almost instantaniously. Well after the hopper stopped kicking I stepped out of the room for a minute. I just went in to check and see if it was done and the rat was soaking wet. Kinda looked like it threw it up but, it was in the middle of eating it? The rat is also the right size for the snake. What is up with that?

is it possible the snake helped the rat with its swimming lesson in the water dish?

They will wind up dragging them all over, including through the water dish.

Alternatively, some of them drool a LOT when they're eating, and it can take them ages to actually find he head, during which they may mouth all over the body.

    Re: Whats up with this?

I feed my two snakes in a empty tub to prevent them eating substrate and spilling the water dish. I never thought about it mouthing the rat. It was just the rat was pretty soaked so it kinda cought me off guard. THanks for your guys help.

Yep, I work so hard to present dry prey (most of mine feed on FT) & several of my snakes just love to grab & dunk them in their dish.

All snakes soak their prey due to salivating to help lubricate the meal to go down easier. Similar to us swallowing pills, as most ppl use water to swallow larger pills.
