Re: Different Family Recipes/Meals
For a nice summertime lunch, my grandmother and grandfather made "Tomato Dolphin". Not sure where that name came from, since there are no dolphins in the dish! LOL
It was toasted bread, with thick cut slices of cheddar cheese on that (the sharper the better).
Whole stewed tomatoes were brought to a boil, and then one or two eggs were broken into it, and quickly stirred into the stewed tomatoes and then spoonfuls were put on top of the cheese and toast.
OMG - talk about YUMMMY!!! Now you have me wanting to go get some stewed tomatoes!!!

Re: Different Family Recipes/Meals
Growing up in Ohio, my mother always made buckeyes. They are peanut butter balls dipped in chocolate so they resemble the state nut of Ohio They are ridiculously good unless you eat more than 15. Don't know if this counts. I have a pretty small family and don't remember much about my grandparents. They were crappy cooks for the most part anyway

Re: Different Family Recipes/Meals
Of course, I have to add the regional practice in NC of putting coleslaw on hot dogs and hamburgers. Hell, a Chick-Fil-A sandwich is kicked up a notch putting the coleslaw on the sandwich.
I never understand why people look at me oddly when I put coleslaw on my hot dogs and hamburgers down here in GA.
Got a co-worker to try it at a tail gating party we had before a Braves game and he went "Dammit! It's actually pretty freaking good! I didn't want to like it and tell you were right!!"

I spent the second half of my childhood in NJ. Home of the sloppy joe. Not the meat kind, the kind with cold cuts , coleslaw and russian dressing on rye. Damn good!

we have sauerkraut and pork roast every year on New Years Day. Also love sauerkraut on brats. My Granny used to make pasties which are a meat and veggie filled pastry type thing and there were these little cabbage and hamburger filled things she made that were the BOMB but idk what they were called???
