Friend HElp
My "friend" wants a crested gecko, the problem is he isn't looking at the ups and downs of keeping Cresties. He hasnt done any research and he wont do any because he feels geckos are geckos and they are to play with. How do i convince him to do atleast a little bit of research?

Re: Friend HElp
If he is that ignorant I doubt he will listen but the simple fact that he will end up killing it sooner or later (most likely sooner)should be enough.
Honestly, if he wants a toy gecko he should buy a plastic toy gecko and put it in a tank, not a live animal!

Unless your "friends" house is really hot I can't see any "down" of keeping crested geckos.
I do agree that your friend should do his research.

Re: Friend HElp
Those are temps are ok. I'm just worried he won't feed the gecko a good diet and have it get MBD or get dehydrated from not misting enough (more likely with a baby). Those are the first worries to come to mind, but their are a few others.
He really needs to do some research. Cresties are very simple and are hardy but your friend still needs a basic understanding of their husbandry.

Re: Friend HElp
There are plenty of "downsides" to keeping crested geckos if you don't abide by proper care and husbandry requirements. They may be easy to keep, but they still have basic needs that, if not met, are often fatal. They still need proper temps, humidity, diet, enclosure and cleanliness. And hatchlings need slightly more attention given to those things than adults.
I would print out your friend a few caresheets and show him where he can get supplies like food and caging. Stress the fact that this is a living being that he will need to spend time caring for EVERY DAY--not just when he feels like it or remembers that it's cool to have a gecko. I would highly recommend this caresheet (and you can also get food and other supplies from this same site): http://www.pangeareptile.com/id52.htm
