    Provent a Mite concerns/instructions

    Hi

I went into my reptile store and asked for a can of Provent a Mite. They were very hesitant to sell me a can. They told me that there is a big risk that my snake could die if I use the product. They also warned me that I should not use the product in the house and that the snake should not re-enter the aquarium for at least 6 hours after the application. I read the instructions on the can and they were very vague.

Who has used this product...and please describe to me your process.

I didn't end up buying it because they freaked me out. Help!!!!!

    Thanks!

    Re: Provent a Mite concerns/instructions

    Hi,

I can give you some of the basics until the people who have used it get here I think.

Always remove the waterbowl before treatment.
Always remove the snake before treatment.
Do not over use it - you don't want everything soaking wet with the product.
Make sure the product has dried thoroughly before putting either the snake or the waterbowl back in the treated tank.
Dont use it in the same room as any insects you want to keep alive.

Hopefully the better answers will be a long shortly.

I have used it and it works great ! Heres the key to using it. I used it on paper towels. Spray the towels and let them dry or sit out for about an hour. Then put them in your tank i use tubs but it would be the same thing. Use the paper towels till you have no more mits i use my paper towels for about a week i change them every other day . The key is LET THE TOWELS DRY . I have never had any trouble using this product it worked great for me !

    Re: Provent a Mite concerns/instructions

It doesn't take much (amount sprayed) to treat the enclosure.

I simply very lightly spray the tub (probably 5 seconds worth) (with no substrate or anything in it). Let it completely dry, add newspaper (my substrate of choice), water bowl, hides and then snake.

Never apply directly to the snake, and never spray in the water dish or while the water dish is in the enclosure.

Takes about 5 minute to completely dry.

    Re: Provent a Mite concerns/instructions

I used it to get rid of a mite infestation. It worked so well that now I use it once a month to prevent any re-infestations. Here is the link to their website. The phone number is at the top and Bob Pound can answer any questions you have and give you some additional tips on ways to use it...

You could, but I'm not sure what the point would be. I only use it when I bring in a new animal to pre-treat their tub, and at that time, I'll re-treat the existing colony as a preventative measure.

If you're not bringing in new animals, you wouldn't anything to prevent against.
