Will an older snake breed?
May be picking up a 9 year old female which has never been bred. Will she probably figure it out now? Or will she probably not be interested. Thanks in advance for help!

My oldest snake gave me a large clutch when she was 19. She's 21 now and doing fine.

Did you breed her for the first time at 19?? That's amazing if so.

I received her when she was older, but I was told that she had never been bred before. She's one of my favorite snakes, but I don't think I'll breed her again.

Wow... Very cool. Speaking of not breeding her... When do most people retire snakes? Is there an age?

The odlest we've heard of a snake breeding is 32. Then she deid. Remember Ball Pythons only have a few priorities in life, Eating, Sleeping, Drinking, Breathing and Breeding. It's in their instincts to reproduce, doesn't matter the age. If she is capable of producing a viable clutch she will.

I track recovery after a breeding, if it seems the female isn't 100%- she gets a break next season irregardless of age. My oldest girls are about 10 now & still going strong. If they begin to slow down or throw bad clutches they'll be retired from breeding, but they'd still be the great pets they've always been.

I've heard, I think from Jas Balls, that older females that had never been bred were more likely to become egg bound than young, 1200g females.
