Thumbs up After 4 1/2 Long Months.....

I just wanted to let everyone know that after 4 1/2 months Tanveer finally decided to eat!!!!!!!!!! Thank you all soooo much for your feeding tips on this website! I tried everything several times until we were successful LOL.

Finally on Monday night I again tried to leave an adult f/t mouse in front of his hide overnight. The funny thing is that I was so used to him not eating that I went to pull it out Tuesday afternoon and was shocked that it wasn't there LOL. I actually searched his entire tank in disbelief LOL.

Things that worked for me (even though I tried these several times before it actually worked):

    1. I stopped moving him to a feeding tank.
    2. I fed him at night after everyone went to bed.
    3. I downsized from a medium f/t rat to an adult f/t mouse.
    4. I used a blow dryer to warm the mouse up.

One question for ya'll! Now that I have downsized his food should I still wait to feed him again for 7 days. Or now that it is a much smaller meal should I feed him more often?

Congrats, I would keep feeding one prey item per week. Thats providing that the prey item be the appropriate size for the snake.

Either 10% of the snakes body weight, or a prey item as thick as the thickest part of your snake.

Grats on getting him to eat after so long. BTW, did you try feeding live? If the prey is smaller than the thickest part of his body, you might want to try feeding multiple prey items. I suggest keeping him on an every seven day schedule.

Re: After 4 1/2 Long Months.....

Feeding live was actually the only thing I didn't try because quite frankly it freaked me out too much LOL. There was the gross factor for me plus I was afraid to leave it in there with him.

Okay I will stick to the 7 day feeding schedule then. He is between 3 and 3 1/2 feet long and weighed 1167 grams as of 7/17/09. Before his fasting he was 1224 grams. So with feeding 2 items at a time, since I will be attempting to feed him the same way next time, should I then just leave two mice next to his hide? I am guessing they are smart enough to know there is more then one there LOL.

Im DEF no expert, but I think maybe if you leave both there, whichever he doesnt eat first might get too cold for him and he may decide not to eat it. When I fed my girl F/T for a few weeks I fed her two mice and waiting till I knew she ate the first to give her the second, just so it was hot still.

    MsPrada,

Oh that is good thinking I think I will try and do the same thing when I feed him next! Thanks for the tip!

Re: After 4 1/2 Long Months.....

Thanks for the tips everyone!!! Last night I went to feed Tanveer again in his tank (instead of moving him) and this time he snatched up that f/t adult mouse in no time!!! Scared me since I was expecting him to linger around it for awhile

I moved his vine and his head was peeking out of his hide. So I took the mouse by the tail with the tongs and he wasted no time at all LOL. Then about an hour later I noticed his head was peeking out of hide again so I offered him another one and he gladly ate it as well

So thankfully he is definately on a roll eating again!!!!!!!!!
