ok, Lets review basic BP care and husbandry...

1) BP's are nocturnal... you have them outside in the sunshine.
2) BP's are not arboreal... people put them in trees for pics.
3) BP's like dark, snug, hides...you have them outside in wide open space.

I would think the reason they are active outside is because they are stressed and simply want a dark, snug space to sleep. That's probably why they periscope...
