Cash, Credit Card, Big Brother
When was the last time you used cash to make a purchase? How often do you use a credit card?
Who benefits by our society moving away from a cash based economy to one based in cyberspace?
Are you really worth 100K just because it's in your bank? Ever try to make a withdrawal of more than a few thousand dollars and have the bank tell you they either don't have that much cash on hand, they will give you a money order that's "just as good as" cash or tell you they have to order that amount of money before they can give it to you? If you can't get your money the moment you want it, whose money is it really?
I'm not kidding.
You know those little magnetic strips on the back of all the plastic cards you carry with you everywhere they go? Who reads them?
It is said that the average urban dweller is photographed more than TWO hundred times a day. If the technology exists to do that, is it such a leap to figure that those little magnetic strips are not being tracked too? What's with those Theft Preventors you have to walk between to enter and exit many businesses? Just what all do they check on?
And cell phones. Pinpoint GPS location.
I LIKE cash. I don't really care about being photographed, but that's because I am not hiding anything but I do rather resent the fact that anytime someone wants to find me, they can just by checking where my phone signal is originating.
Ahhhhh, I've been reading 1984, no wonder.
Still all valid points though, which are not being thought for the first time, merely brought out and looked at, so to speak.
I may not be very smart, but what if I am?

I like cash also. I have a band account but as soon as money goes in I take it out I never use my atm card and I have never had a credit card. I just dont feel comfortable with all that

Re: Cash, Credit Card, Big Brother
I use a debit card for everything. I don't need more debt and I never carry cash. I don't get too concerned with big brother watching me. As long as you aren't violating the law then it's ok. I actually would like to see more cameras out there. I would hope that they are a crime deterrent. I had a thought the other day. If I am driving down the street and a kid runs out into the street and I hit him/her, I am screwed. Regardless of whether I am criminally liable, it has the potential to ruin my life. What if there was a camera to verify that the kid was unsupervised and ran into the street and I was powerless to stop the events from unfolding how they did. I guess it cuts both ways though.

Re: Cash, Credit Card, Big Brother
We are being moved as a society away from a cash based economy to a plastic one.
It's amazing how insidious it has been. People don't even think about the fact that if things go as they are now, it's not too far fetched to see a time when there is no cash being exchanged.
If someone hasn't made a deposit into your bank, and WHO really owns those, then you have NO way to pay. For anything.
Think about that.
Not only that, but with plastic there is a record. Tell me again, who has access to your purchasing record? Only ANYONE your bank thinks may want it, no matter what they say.
Try this, set up an email account. Use it for those places that say they have to have one to contact you but that they won't give it to anyone else.
Then see who starts spamming you. The ONLY place that email could have been obtained was from the company that promised you no one would ever get it.
I just don't like it. Not one bit.

Or even better, Try taking money out of your account from a bank that is running out of fundage!
Ive always hated banks... and hate to have my money in them. If i save money, i put that money aside somewhere safe. Not a bank account.

When it comes to credit card transactions people like this worry me a lot more than the government.

I agree people have no idea how much freedom they are giving up , not to mention how complacent they are with what they have already lost .

Re: Cash, Credit Card, Big Brother
Well technically cash is only worth what the government says it's worth. It's just a bit of paper saying "I'm worth xx".
I use a debit card, have no credit cards, and thus no credit card debt. I don't feel all that sorry for folks who complain about their own credit card debt. They are adults who choose to spend money they don't have, and then they owe the money back with interest. It's just a loan that you get from the credit card company, lots of small loans, all of which accrue interest.
People lived before without credit cards, and there's a percentage of us that still live without credit cards.
I'm not all that worried about big brother cameras. I think most people worry overmuch, because really.. who in the government is really concerned that YOU are going into wallyworld to buy some popcorn and toilet paper?

Re: Cash, Credit Card, Big Brother
Driving the masses to switch to a plastic economy is just the governments way of gaining more control over us. Simple as that. Dont get me wrong, I'm glad that I live in the U.S. and not some third world country, I just see this ( the u.s.) government as a lesser evil....not quite up to hellish standards , more of a judas vibe and I think that betraying kiss is coming soon. (Not trying to be religious, its just the best comparisons I could think of.)
