Well we just had a small specialty reptile store open not too long ago here in Madison WI.
He has displays that are somewhat similar to smaller zoo types. and then he has his acrylic ones for smaller snakes or lizards. He also has the reptarium/vivarium's that he sells set up as displays with geckos and other lizards (each species separate). He has a small fridge for meal worms and such, he has crickets in tubs in his bathroom. There is a storage space in the back and he keeps a small supply of live feeders and a larger fridge/freezer or frozen mice and rats.
He has shelves placed with nice amounts of things needed for keeping reptiles, lights, hides, fake plants.
You walk in and it seems like you are entering a small herp zoo. He also has a website which is updated a few times a week. He advertises a bit on Kiijii, and sells online as well.
He keeps it small, rotates his stock with snakes he keeps at home. Keeps everything clean, and it always has people coming in and out. Folks in for feeders, local kids who will pay HIM to see him feed a monitor.
He will do payment plans, will buy snakes or take trades.
Overall its a great place. I can link you to his website so you can see part of the layout.
