    About to buy show displays.

No idea where this should go.

I am about to spend a lot of money on some Acrylic show displays. Please do not use this thread to advertise whatever you are selling, as that is against forum rules. Also please do not use it to point to who is selling them... I already know who is selling them!

I guess what I am looking for is just some good general information. As many of you know, the quality Acrylic displays are NOT cheap. I just want a setup that will last me a long time as I start to do more and more reptile shows each year... and one that I can build on over time.

For those with experience, what features would you recommend? What features would you suggest be avoided? What don't I know that would be beneficial for me to know BEFORE buying????

Another BIG question is If i do get the standard Acrylic display that a few places are selling... that come with three rows and a carrying case that also acts as risers... Is the case really necessary? Some of the places selling them have an option to buy without the case for a pretty big price break. Wouldn't a standard box work for bringing to and from shows? What info can you provide me on this particular question.

Thanks in advance for any possible information you can provide on this subject.

Re: About to buy show displays.

I personally would get the cases in order to best protect the displays. I purchased some acrylic displays about a year ago, and even though they were packed and padded extremely well, one of them still cracked significantly in shipping. I am sure you will be much more careful with your displays than any shipping company is with a random box, but I would still go for the better protection on something you are going to be putting a lot of money into.

I have the Reptile Emporiums stuff. They are a great company to work with, as they do custom work, and the set that you get comes with the case that doubles as the stands..

    I like them very much!

what about the features... what features do you think it is important for the cases to have? what features should try to be avoided?

Mike...hope you don't mind me adding a question. What sizes would you guys recommend? I see they come in 3, 4, 5, and 6 sections per row. Do most of you get all the same sizes or mix up the display sizes?

Thank you! this was another questions I had. They standard setups are 22" long... 8" from front to back. that 22" is divided into 1 to 6 sections. I would think the 5 and 6 section ones would could be used for hatchlings, but that is it.

Thats why I am thinking the 2 or 3 section ones would be better because they can also be used to display older balls. I figure if you do have the larger sections, you can always display two or 3 hatchlings in each one at the show.

Please share your thoughts on this too!

Mike, the other thing you have to think about is which kind of locking device do you want on the back? They have the ones with individual locks and they have the ones with the bars that slide back so you unlock the all of the tubs at once.
